Is IELTS compulsory in all cases?

India is a multilingual nation. Although English serves as the official language for business and is widely used in education, the national language of Hindi places India in the category of non-English speaking nations. To demonstrate English proficiency and prove the ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the language, candidates must take a standardized exam to establish a uniform evaluation standard for every applicant.

For a long time, examinations such as the Pearson Test of English, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, and the International English Language Testing System have been utilized to measure a candidate's English language proficiency on an equal footing with international students worldwide.

Certain students choose the IELTS test over TOEFL because it helps those who feel hesitant about interacting with a computer rather than a live interviewer. Since TOEFL is administered entirely online, it can potentially influence a candidate's final score. Historically, TOEFL was predominantly preferred by institutions in the United States and Canada, whereas IELTS and PTE were favored in the UK. Nowadays, these assessments are largely interchangeable without country-specific limitations, and IELTS is now recognized by American universities as well. Furthermore, some British institutions might waive this prerequisite if an applicant achieves an impressive score above 70 percent in their high school English coursework.

Certain higher education institutions may advise applicants to complete a pre-sessional English program prior to beginning their primary degree program. This option can provide flexibility, potentially exempting the student from taking the IELTS or TOEFL tests. Alternatively, universities might require applicants to pass their own internal English assessments.

Despite these situations where an English language assessment might not be strictly necessary, we strongly advise students to take the IELTS examination to strengthen their UK visa applications. It reassures the visa official that you possess the necessary language skills to travel abroad and complete your chosen academic program smoothly.
